Our Passengers Are Counting On You To Keep Them Safe

August 21, 2020

Think before you decide to step on your pedal harder to beat the red traffic light. Our lives are full of decisions, and one bad decision may lead to a lifetime of regret.

Most of the terrible road accidents can actually be avoided if drivers were more patient on the road. Increase your chances of staying safe on the road by adopting the following road safety tips:

Essential Steps To Prevent Vehicle Accidents

1. Follow All Traffic Signs 🚦

Stay in the right lane and follow the traffic rules to ensure safe driving. Respect the yellow traffic lights; slow down and prepare to stop. Do not view it as a sign to step on the accelerator and rush through the road intersection to beat the red light.

Stop at the “Stop” line or sign and ensure that there’s no pedestrian or cyclist before you press the accelerator. Don’t hurry, take your time.

2. Don’t Over Speed When Driving 🚗

When you have the urge to speed up or be in a hurry, always bear in mind the safety of yours and your passengers. Speeding might cause you a fatal accident. Stick within the speed limit.

3. Have Sufficient Rest Before Going On The Road 🛌

Lack of concentration endanger the driver’s safety and that of other road users. Do not drive if you are under influence of medication that causes drowsiness. But if you suddenly feel unwell on the road, always pull out of traffic as soon as you can, park in a safe spot and call for help, as what Mr T S Tan, Prius Hirer, had done correctly on 3 August 2020.

4. Be Aware Of Your Surroundings When Driving ⌛️

Keep a safe distance from the car in front of you. Always keep your eyes on the road.

Stay 100% focus and do not get distracted. Talking on your mobile or even to passengers, listening to radio, thinking about other things, texting or split seconds off the front view could cause an accident.

Check your mirrors every 5 to 8 seconds and prior to changing lanes, merging, or turning so that you have time to respond and adapt to changing conditions and avoid unexpected braking situations.

5. Do Not Become Complacent 👀

Many vehicles collide in good visibility where either one or both vehicles don’t see each other until it’s too late to avoid collision.  If you just take your eyes off the road for 5 seconds, long enough to cover a football field if driving at speed of 80km/h!

6. Share The Road And Keep Each Other Safe 🏍

Remember, you are not the only road user. Large commercial vehicles require a much longer distance to stop, do not cut in front of them closely. When changing lanes, always make a visual check for motorcycles and do not follow too closely behind cyclists.

The next time you are on the road, keep the above-mentioned driver safety tips in mind.

Remember safety is everyone’s responsibility.  Drive Safe. Stay Safe.
